knew him as a child and that he lived in Kowloon Tong.

In these circumstances and because it appears necessary to

know if Lowing was of Chinese nationality before 1898, the date

of the cession of the New Territories, Sir Samuel Hoare will be

glad, if Mr. Ormsby Gore sees no objection, if local enquiry can

be made with a view to establishing whether Ahlow Lowing has

acquired British nationality in the manner prescribed and would

be glad, if local enquiries appear to confirm the claim to British

nationality, if statutory declarations could be taken from one or

two persons acquainted with the facts.
